Aside from that your Slackware 14 lsmod shows that a lot less modules are loaded than with Debian – and with my Slackware 14 as well, as shows cpe266 attached lsmod file. The video is unreadable with slanted lines apparently where the text or graphics should be. So I’ll try various other changes, including blacklisting, tomorrow or on the weekend.

When I apolllo without X, the splash screen is all garbage and then my login is garbage. You are not directly subscribed to this bug’s notifications.
Tue May 2 I had tried various xorg. It seems vesa can’t be used because your GPU is already claimed by a conflicting kernel driver, as says the X log: Slackware – Installation This forum is for the discussion of installation issues with Slackware. However, the Syncmaster is working properly in all modes. When I switch to a text console with ctrl-alt-Fn, I get a background screen filled with multicolored random pixels. The TTY screen background is now a magnified image derived from the X screen background, and text is unreadable.

It took minutes – I left the room and came back. And then I get my console login prompt. Comment on this change optional.
I did skip some packages or groups, possibly something was omitted, like some kind of framebuffer driver? The behavior switching into and out of a text console is identical to what I see on this system. Then we will simply blacklist the involved driver and you should be able to start X.
